Overview
Koelker Excavating is hiring a capable and organized Residential Foreman to oversee crews on new home builds, housing developments, and small- to mid-scale residential grading and utility projects. This position is ideal for someone who understands the fast-paced nature of residential work and can lead small teams to complete jobs efficiently, safely, and to spec.
The Residential Foreman plays a hands-on leadership role and should be comfortable directing laborers and operators, reading blueprints, and coordinating with builders and homeowners.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 2+ years of experience leading residential construction or utility crews
- Solid understanding of site grading, trenching, and backfilling
- Ability to read and interpret residential site plans and lot layouts
- Knowledge of utility installation (water, sewer, storm) a plus
- Strong communication skills with ability to interact with homeowners and contractors
- Familiar with GPS and grade checking (Trimble or equivalent)
- Reliable and safety-focused with a strong work ethic
- Valid driver’s license required (CDL preferred but not necessary)
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise residential site crews on lot grading, foundation prep, and utilities
- Manage jobsite layout, equipment operation, and crew assignments
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of work according to project plans
- Maintain communication with project managers and builders
- Coordinate deliveries, inspections, and subcontractor activity as needed
- Conduct daily safety meetings and maintain clean, safe worksites
- Document progress and report issues or delays
- Train and mentor less experienced crew members
