Overview

Koelker Excavating is hiring a dependable, experienced Equipment Operator to join our commercial crew. In this role, you’ll be responsible for operating heavy machinery to complete excavation, grading, utility trenching, and site prep tasks across various projects in Iowa.

We’re looking for someone who takes pride in their work, knows their machine, and can keep a jobsite moving — safely and efficiently.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2+ years of experience operating heavy equipment (excavator, dozer, skid steer, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of safe operating procedures
  • Familiarity with site grading, trenching, and excavation techniques
  • Ability to follow instructions, read grade stakes, and work on active job sites
  • Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred, not required)
  • Reliable transportation to and from job sites
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate assigned machinery to perform excavation, grading, and trenching
  • Inspect equipment daily and report any mechanical issues
  • Follow foreman and superintendent directions
  • Ensure safety on site for yourself and crew
  • Work efficiently with other operators and laborers
  • Maintain clean, organized equipment and work areas
